Evaluation of potential for exploiting arable land in low hilly red soil region in Lanxi based on remote sensing and GIS;

The course of developing for peanut planting indicates that the sustainable high yield for peanut encounters four obstacles in low-hilly red soil region of south China in new century: They are long-term culture without rotation; degrading of peanut breed; drought hazard to crops during mid-summer and autumn and the improper dosage and method of fertilization.

Based on field observation in summer,the paper analyzed the variable of water- retaining capacity of 1 m soil horizen and soil water consumption in hot summer days on paulownia-tea system on low hilly red soil.

A study on larger scale red soil resource information system.;

Using the Structured Design(SD) model and through the analysis of the system objective, the users requirement, the data source and the system functions, the Red Soil Resource Information System was designed on the basis of PC-ARC/INFO and was then used to evaluate the suitability of red soil resource in Nanfeng County.

A prelimenary study on red soil resource information system and its application is discussed, from the perspective of system general design, system establishment and applied model development.

Based on the technique of Geographic Information System (GIS), red soil resources (RSR) of Zhejiang province were classified to 84 types by computer - aided overlay analysis and qualitatively evaluated by combination with mathematic models.
