The past twenty years has seen great progress in compiling the elementary Chinese textbooks for short-term intensive training class.

This thesis will discuss the Chinese Textbook Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI written by the Sinologist T.

It concludes that in order to accommodate the overseas teaching environment,Chinese textbooks should be regionalized,categorized,diversified and it should accommodate specific local needs with obvious local characteristics.

In this period,it emerges lots of famous sinologists,such as Shen shuzhou(申叔舟),Cui shizhen(崔世珍),and lots of famous linguistic works and Chinese teaching materials,such as 〈hongwu zhengyun yixun〉(洪武正韵译训),〈sisheng tongjie〉(四声通解),〈fanyi laoqida·piaotongshi〉(翻译老乞大·朴通事).

The“story character”in Chinese teaching material is a creative and novel area which has not yet been deeply researched.

Thus,the teachers should have a good knowledge of teaching Chinese characters and adopt the suitable approach for better results.

According to the recent research the author suggest a new model for teaching Chinese characters as it is based on the theory of “Character family”,and both of the native Chinese speakers and foreign students will benefit from it.

Recently,the result of teaching chinese character is remarkable in higher phase,at the same time,The issues on the Chinese character teaching and the textbook compilation have drawn more and more attention at the beginner s and middle s stage.
