In this thesis, we are going to take a cognitive perspective to study the motivations to the metaphoric compounds with a view to accounting for their word formation and morphologic.

On the basis of Wisniewski s "alignable difference",Pustejovsky s "qualia structure",Lakoff s "conceptual metaphor",Kovecses s "conceptual metonymy" and Goossens s "metaphtonymy",the paper focuses on metaphtonymic noun-noun compounds in Chinese and English to account for their internal semantic structures.
