法国电影理论家、电影史学家、导演。1907年11月7日生于苏瓦松,1988年卒于巴黎。1925年起担任电影俱乐部秘书长，为电影刊物撰写评论文章。做过先锋派导演M.莱皮埃的助手。1936年 2月与H.郎特罗瓦、G.弗朗叙合力创办法国电影资料馆。1949年起，拍摄把音乐形像转现为银幕形像的一系列实验影片，重要作品有《太平洋 231》(1949)、《德彪西作品的形像》(1951)。米特里的重要电影著作是多卷本《电影史》，这部著作以电影语言的演进为纲，探讨了电影艺术形式的发展，而对经济、社会学、思想意识方面的论述占据次要的地位。他的两卷本《电影美学与心理学》（1963），对艺术史、绘画、音乐、节奏、电影形式和结构做了综合论述，是当代重要的百科全书式的电影美学专著。
