Yu Xiangdou, who undertook Remarks and Reviews while carving, was the Merchant of literature in Wan Li times of Ming dynasty and created two kinds of Remarks and Reviews about popular fictions which were Pinglin-style and Comment, thus he was the first man who remarked on popular fictions in Ming dynasty.
明代万历时期的书坊主余象斗在操刀刻书的同时弄笔评点，独创了“评林体”、“按语”评点两种通俗小说的评点方式，是明代书坊主评点通俗小说之第一人。
