本文以弥勒和弥勒信仰的缘起为起点,探讨了印度早期弥勒造像与我国早期弥勒造像的渊源关系,考察了我国北魏以前炳灵寺石窟、敦煌莫高窟中弥勒造像的特征,并将其与印度早期的弥勒造像进行了比较,归纳出我国北魏以前弥勒造像所借鉴的印度弥勒造像的形式特征和独创的地域性特征。
