（传说）西域记九曰：“未生怨王窣堵波侧，有尊者阿难半身舍利。昔尊者将寂灭也，去摩揭陀国，趣吠舍厘城。两国交争，欲兴甲兵。尊者伤愍，遂分其身。摩揭陀王，奉归供养，即斯胜地，式修崇建。”
