| 棘鱼类 Acanthodii 已绝灭的早期鱼类。营淡水或咸水生活，从志留纪晚期一直持续到二叠纪早期，前后约生存了1.5亿年。棘鱼类通常具纺锤状的体形。体小，除少数属种体长可达2.5米外 ，体长一般不到20厘米。具1或2个背鳍，1个臀鳍，成对的胸鳍与腹鳍，鳍前端，均具一坚硬棘。原始种类胸鳍与腹鳍之间，尚有成对的中间棘，数目不等，最多可达6对；其数目越多越原始。头部和体部均被以小的方形鳞，鳞片平铺而互不覆压。具歪型尾。眼大，位于头部前端侧面；眼周围具发达的巩膜环，一般由5块骨片组成。鼻孔小，在原始种类中每对鳃裂均具各自的鳃盖，最前面的一对鳃盖由舌弓支持 ，其余的由鳃弓支持。在进步种类中舌弓支持的鳃盖增大，而取代其余的鳃盖。棘鱼类和硬骨鱼类最亲近，与硬骨鱼纲并列。 棘鱼纲化石的地理分布较广，欧洲、北美、北非及南亚均有报道。中国也有发现，分布在南方省份的早泥盆世地层中，但均为零散的鳍棘或鳞片。 |
