性质:聚合物流体由于流动取向而导致的光学各向异性现象。由于高分子链很长,又具有柔顺性,、因此在流动过程中,在外力作用下,使分子链由无规的、蜷曲缠绕状态变为解缠绕、伸展的取向状态,从而产生流动双折射—平行与垂直于流动方向的流体折射率不同。通常可用偏光显微镜测定流动双折射。利用这种性能,可以测定聚合物流体的流变性和高分子线团的尺寸等。
