电子数据互换(E Dl)业务通过通信网，计算机之间的数据自动交换和处理，并按国际统一规格编制资料的业务。具体说是一种在公司或单位之间传输订单、发票等商业文件的电子标准化手段，以完成商务处理的全部过程。EDI业务的主要特点，是取代纸面贸易，减少重复录入，信息传递快，可靠性强，加速资金流通，及时提供决策支持信息，有助于改善贸易各方的关系，从而提高工作效率和增强竞争能力。在EDI工作过程中.所交换的报文都是结构化的数据，整个过程都是由EDI系统完成的。EDI系统由用户接口模块、内部接口模块、报文生成和处理模块、格式转换模块、通信模块组成。EDI的开发、应用是通过计算机通信网实现的。它主要有三种方式，卫点对点方式，即EDI按照约定的格式，通过通信网进行信息的透明传输和终端处理，完成相互的业务交往。②增值网方式，即利用已有的计算机与通信网.除完成一般的通信任务外，增加EDI的服务功能。③电子信箱方式.它是建立在051开放系统的网络平台上，适应多样化的信息类塑，并通过网络连接，达到快速、准确、安全、可靠的综合信息处理系统。它是以存储转发为基础的，非实时的电子通信系统，非常适合作为EDI的传输系统。 用户终端可通过电话网、中国公用分组交换数据网(CHINA-PAC)，中国公用数字数据网(C HINADDN)，中国公用计算机互连网(CHINANET)等方式接入EDI系统。
