补充资料：扭波理论的出现
在研究出地震扭波理论后，李泰来趁热打铁进行了抗震理论的研究，因为扭波不能通过流体和柔性物体，他提出了“轮胎”理论，即采用柔性材料如橡胶作为建筑体的“轮胎”，阻止扭波进入建筑体，从而达到了防震的作用。他还针对扭波拟定了具体的防震抗震措施。
在对扭波的研究中李泰来还惊奇地发现：中国的很多古典建筑如宫殿、庙宇、木塔等全部具有除“地下”以外的七种抗震性能，它们都是世界上抗震性最强的地上建筑物（位于山西的应天塔就是一个典型）。
但是，让李泰来觉得遗憾的是，自从1979年发现扭波理论后，由于经费、人手等原因，更由于扭波理论对传统地震理论的大胆否定，时至今日，扭波理论仍未得到应有的重视。
