国际性社会科学情报机构，1950年11月成立。联合国教科文组织承认该会具有咨询资格并给予资助。常设机构在巴黎。该会由有关社会科学文献编目等专业协会的代表和各有关学科专家15人组成，另有无表决权的合作委员15名。主席由各国不同学科的学者担任。该会与联合国教科文组织社会科学文献中心情报检索系统(DARE)、国际文献联合会社会科学文献委员会(FID/SD)和欧洲社会科学研究与文献协调中心(ECSSID)等国际组织保持合作关系。
该会的主要任务是：①与联合国教科文组织及其他国际组织合作， 拟定工作计划， 从事咨询和培训工作，改进社会科学情报工作；②制订有关文献标准，监督实施；③负责编写书目和文献资料。该会以年刊形式分别出版有关社会学、政治学、经济学、社会人类学与文化人类学的题录、丛书、期刊目录、情报机构指南等出版物，并建立社会科学数据库。
