在电子专用设备仪器材料、电子元器件产品领域，对数控机床需求相对较多，主要是购置能够加工小型精密和精密模具的数控机床。

电子信息产品快速升级换代的特点对数控厂商的服务提出很高要求：电子信息产品一个最大的特点就是升级换代很快，如集成电路的性能每18个月翻一番，同时价格下降一半。电子信息企业必须与上下游企业建立步调一致的关系，才能很好参与市场竞争。在选择数控机床时，需要快速交货。一旦对产品服务提出要求，必须快速作出反映。这对很多国内机床企业提出了挑战，同时也带动国内机床业的进步。
