The main achievement and recent development at home and abroad are discussed covering some research fields such as study on saline soil and its diseases control,the three-phase structure of saline soil,salt migration,engineering characteristics,and geotechnical engineering characteristics are studied on saline soil in the northwest region of China.

The results of engineering property tests indicate that the soft clay on the east bank of Erhai Lake has such engineering properties as a high water content,a high porosity ratio,high compressibility,low strength and high plasticity.
