天玉镇位于江西省吉安市青原区北部，地处赣中丘陵地带。全镇共7个村委会，1个社区居委会，99个村小组，总人口14000人。全镇总面积31.7平方公里，其中耕地面积12538.5亩，水田11523亩。2003年全镇国民生产总值4535万元，农民人均纯收入为1914元，财政收入为154.5万元。 天玉镇有丰富的自然资源和奇特的人文景观。地下蕴藏着煤、石灰石、花岗岩等矿产；盛产优质水稻、大豆、芋头、花生、蔬菜等农作物；山上除杉、松等木材外，还有柚、李、柑等特产。境内有临江古窑、流泉飞瀑——铜壶滴漏、天玉古庙、兴隆岩、红军洞等名胜可供浏览，其中临江古窑是国家级重点文物保护单位，是迄今为止在全国范围内保存较为完整的一处宋、元瓷器作坊遗址，几乎重现了明代宋应星《天工开物》一书中所描绘的“作坊图记”。天玉镇原隶属于吉水县，1987年划归原吉安市（现吉州区）管辖，2000年撤地设市时又划归青原区管辖。天玉镇的名称是由临江公社改为天玉乡，1994年元月1日撤乡改镇。
