A cubane type cluster (η 5 C 5H 5) 4Fe 4(μ 3 Se) 4 (1)was prepared by reaction of (η 5 C 5H 5) 2Fe 2(CO) 4 with elemental selenium in refluxing toluene,whereas two cubane type clusters with a general formula (η 5 RC 5H 4) 4Cr 4(μ 3 S) 4 (2, R=COMe; 3, R=CO 2Me), were obtained by self assembly reaction of (η 5 RC 5H 4) 2Cr 2(CO) 4S in toluene at reflux.
