日本音乐学家。1909年 2月13日生于广岛。原名英士，号雨石。1933年毕业于东京帝国大学美学与美术史系，从师田边尚雄、田村宽贞。历任东京大学讲师、东京艺术大学教授、武藏野音乐大学教授，并长期担任宫城道雄纪念馆馆长、《邦乐季刊》主编、琵琶乐协会会长等职。退休后曾到美国密歇根大学讲学。1980年任东洋音乐学会会长。他研究日本音乐美学的专著有《日本音乐的性格》、《日本音乐的美的研究》。他是公认的研究日本三味线音乐、宫城道雄音乐的权威。重要著作尚有《邦乐鉴赏》、《宫城道雄传》、《日本音乐的历史》、《邦乐与人生》等。1972、1979年因研究日本音乐成绩卓著被授予紫绶褒奖章。
