身長24公分，翼長10～11公分。雌雄羽色相同，頭上藍黑色而有光澤，後頸至背、喉至上胸皆為灰黑色。下背、腰、尾上覆羽橙褐色；尾羽略長，黑褐色；翼黑色而有光澤。初級飛羽基部灰白色，過眼線白色，甚長，延伸至耳羽、後頭側甚為醒目。下胸至尾下覆羽栗褐色，下胸略帶灰黑色。嘴黑色，腳肉色。
生態習性：
棲息於山區海拔1,000～2,400公尺之闊葉林和針、闊混合林中，常成小群在樹林中、上層活動。食性寬廣，花密、果實、種子、昆蟲等牠都吃。為台灣特有種鳥類，普遍分布於為台灣中海拔山區。
