形态特征孢子堆生于高梁花序的子房中,椭圆柱形、圆锥形,突出颖壳之外,常弯曲,长0.3-1.2cm,具灰色的膜包围,成熟后色变暗褐色,膜顶端破裂,露出黑褐色的孢子堆和柱状中轴。膜细胞成群分开,近球形,无色,直径7-18μm。孢子球形至近球形,绿褐色,黑褐色至红褐色,光滑或有微细的疣刺,4.5-9μm。
