形态特征:落叶灌木或乔木。树冠圆形或伞形,小枝紫褐色有白粉。单叶互生,宽卵圆形至肾脏形,叶柄细长,紫红色。圆锥花序顶生,花单性与两性共存而同株,花瓣黄色,不孕花有紫红色羽毛状花柄宿存。核果小,肾形。

生态习性:喜光、耐半荫,耐寒、耐旱、耐贫瘠、耐盐碱土,不耐水湿,在深厚肥沃偏酸性的沙壤土上生长良好,根系发达。

繁栽要点:用播种、扦插繁殖。种子成熟后要及时采种,宜在播种床上作条播或撒播,播种前种子要经过70天~90天沙藏处理,或用80摄氏度温水浸种催芽。种植地应选高燥不积水、温差较大的地方。扦插主要用根插,也可分株繁殖。
