【植物形态】
密穗砖子苗 粗壮、直立、秃净、多年生草本。秆疏丛生，高20～60厘米，锐三棱形，基部膨大。叶短于秆，线状披针形，宽0.3～0.5厘米，先端渐尖，下部常折合，上面绿色，下面淡绿色，叶鞘褐色或红棕色。花序下具叶状苞片5～8片，绿色，稍海绵质，通常长于花序；长侧枝聚伞花序简单，具6～12个或更多的辐射枝，长短不等；穗状花序圆筒形或长圆形，具多数密生的小穗，小穗平展或稍下垂，线状披针形，多数集合于小伞梗顶而成一放射状的圆头花序；鳞片膜质，淡黄色或绿白色。坚果狭长圆形或三棱形。抽穗期，夏、秋。 多生于田野、山坡草丛中。分布台湾、广东、广西、云南、西藏等地。

7～9月采收。

止咳化痰，宣肺解表。治风寒感冒，咳嗽痰多。

内服:煎汤，1～3钱。
