农业技术推广通过试验、示范、培训、指导以及咨询服务，把农业技术普及应用于农业生产产前、产中、产后全过程的活动。引导农民广泛应用农业科研成果和先进实用技术的活动，是把农业科研成果和实用技术这一潜在的生产力变为现实生产力的途径。有些国家为发展农业生产，提高农产品在国际市场上的竞争能力，除设立专门的农业机构从事这项工作外，还鼓励和资助农业院校和农业科学研究机构，把农业技术推广工作列为重要任务之一。如美国的农业技术推广，通过国会立法建立了一套完整的合作推广体制。合作推广的组织机构有联邦政府、州、县三个层次，每个层次都与农科院校结合紧密，并有明确的任务。日本的农业技术推广是政府和农民团体并举的双轨制的组织管理体制，即政府建立的农业改良普及系统和农民团体的推广组织共同进行的农业技术推广。中国采取多种方式，开展农业技术推广工作。1993年7月，中国颁布了《中华人民共和国农业技术推广法》，使农业技术推广工作进一步得到了规范、普及和加强。从国家到省、地、县、乡各级都设有农业技术推广站(中心)，村也有技术推广组织或技术推广员。农业技术推广实行农业技术推广机构与农业科研单位、有关学校以及群众性科技组织、农民技术人员相结合的推广体系。为适应市场经济的需要，国家鼓励和支持供销合作社、其他企业事业单位、社会团体以及社会各界的科技人员，到农村开展农业技术推广服务活动。通过举办农业展览会、博览会、技术训练班，建立示范农场、良种繁育场，组织参观，发行专门的农业书刊，颁发绿色证书，开展广播、电视、录相、电影教育等活动。随着农村市场经济的发展，农业技术推广日趋重要。-
