The distereoisomeric mixture of cyanodimethylmethoxycarbonylmethylbutyrolactam,which is the important intermediate of tolyporphin A,was synthesized with total yield of about 10% from 2,3-butandione and malononitrile through condensation,hydrolysis,amination,cyano-substitution and esterification with diazomethane.
