本文以"老"、"子"为例,发现汉语词缀在历史演进过程中具有一般的规律性,即都经过了一个实词虚化的过程,形成后的词缀位具有置固定、标记词性、结构紧密、语音弱化、呈封闭式发展等特征,并在汉语历史发展过程中对大量新词的产生作出了特殊贡献。
