To ascertain the feasibility of the quick formation of the granules in the EGSB reactor seeded with digestion sludge and the possibility of the quick startup of the other EGSB reactors,the primary and the secondary start-up operations of the EGSB reactor were investigated.

The secondary start-up,using methanol as electron donor and nitrite as electron acceptor,was completed within 46 days in the USB reactor,which was inoculated nitrite denitrifying granular sludge that had been deposited under 0~4 ℃ for two months.

Based on the experiment on the secondary start-up of the UASB reactor that had stopped working 8 months,this study mainly explored the affecting factors of the secondary start-up of the UASB reactor employed in the low-concentration domestic wastewater.
