祖冲之(429~500) 中国南北朝时期数学家,天文学家。字文远。祖籍范阳郡逎县(今河北涞源),后因战乱迁居江南。先后在南朝宋、齐任官职。在世界数学史上第一个将圆周率π算到第七位小数的准确度,在3.1415926与3.1415927之间,并确定两个分数形式的π值:约率22/7(≈3.14),密率355/113(≈3.1415929)。在天文方面,创制《大明历》,最早把岁差引进历法,使每一回归年的日数准确到365.2428日。在机械方面,曾设计制造过水碓磨、指南车、“千里船”、漏壶。还精通音律、擅长文学。著作很多,但都已失传。与其子祖暅之合著的《缀术》是《算经十书》之一,被唐代国子监列为算学课本。
