性状： 其磷酸盐为白色结晶性粉末，熔点156-157℃，易溶于水。
药理作用：
为非成瘾性中枢性镇咳药，其镇咳作用强度较可待因弱，等效镇咳剂量约为可待因的10倍。本品尚能缓解组胺、乙酰胆碱和氯化钡引起的气管平滑肌痉挛，并有一定的镇静作用。口服后30-60分钟出现明显镇咳效果，作用可持续4-6小时。
适应症：
主要用于治疗各种原因引起的咳嗽，对轻、中度咳嗽的疗效较重度者为好；对急性支气管炎、上呼吸道感染的镇咳疗效较慢性支气管炎为佳。由于它有镇静作用，尤适用于因咳嗽而影响睡眠的病人。
用量用法： 口服：每次２５０ｍｇ，１日３次。
注意事项： 偶有口干、恶心、胃部不适等不良反应。
