为遗传性疾病。由于氨基酸特别是亮氨酸有刺激胰岛素释放的作用，故可因进食蛋白质或含亮氨酸食物后导致发作性胰岛素增多而出现低血糖表现。患儿青紫、不安、呼吸不规则、出汗、颤抖、肌阵挛或惊厥。口服或静注葡萄糖后症状缓解。如病情延续到5～7岁后则称为亮氨酸敏感的功能性高胰岛素血症。限制含亮氨酸较多的蛋白质饮食可预防发作，加用皮质激素或氯甲苯噻嗪可能好转。
