分子式［C20H18NO4］+Cl-，分子量371.8。又称黄连素。存在于黄连以及其它小檗属植物中。黄色针状结晶。熔点145℃。可溶于热水、乙醇、难溶于乙醚、苯。能与氯仿和丙酮等生成复合物。其水溶液具有黄绿色荧光，黄连素是一种抗菌药物，用于治疗细菌性痢疾、肠炎、上呼吸道感染和抗疟等。现用合成法大量生产。
