我国沿岸均有分布。生活在河口或有少量淡水注入的内湾潮间带中下区软泥沙滩上。不少地方已进行人工养殖。 介绍:
大竹蛏贝壳长6～7厘米，有的可达14厘米，宽1厘米，一般壳长为壳高的4～5倍。壳背缘与腹缘平行，只在腹缘中部稍向内凹。壳顶位于壳的最前端，壳前后缘截形，后端圆。两壳合抱呈竹筒状，前后两端开口。壳质薄脆。壳表光滑，被青绿色或黄褐色壳皮，有时有淡红色彩带。生长线明显，沿后缘及腹缘方向排列。壳内面白色或稍带紫色，可见淡红色彩带。铰合部小，两壳各具主齿一枚。长竹蛙与大竹蛙近似，其主要区别是贝壳极延长，壳长为壳高的6～7倍，壳薄，两壳相等。
