Tobiasen等对590名烧伤患者资料分析后总结出来一种判断烧伤严重程度的指标。其方法是对下列各项目给以评分，然后根据总分判断伤情：①性别：女性1分，男性0分；②年龄：20岁以下为0分，以后每增加20岁加1分；③吸入性损伤1分，全身烧伤1分；④烧伤面积10%以下为1分，每增加10%烧伤面积加1分。所得总分2～3分者存活率可达99%；4～5分者病情属中等，存活率达98%；总分6～7分者病情属中等危重，存活率为80%～90%；总分8～9分者，病情严重，存活率为50%～20%；总分10～11分者病情危重，存活率为20%～40%；总分12～13分者极危重，存活率不超过10%。
