指的是在测定天体位置的,要求不参考其他已知的观测数据和基本星表中的恒星位置,或者只使用基本星表中的恒星位置作为处理资料的过渡,但不受基本星表系统的影响。除观测恒星外,还必须进行坐标原点的测定并独立确定仪器误差。符合这样要求的观测称为绝对测定。绝对测定的精度较高,但观测程序繁复,因此,只用于测定少量较亮的恒星,据以编制基本星表。
