鸸鹋是鹤鸵目鸸鹋科的大型鸟类,原产于澳大利亚,又叫澳洲鸵鸟.
生理特征:鸸鹋体型介于非洲鸵鸟和美洲鸵鸟之间,头高1.6m左右,体高90～100cm,体重40～50kg,性成熟年龄为18～22月龄.鸸鹋属于季节性繁殖的鸟类.产蛋期在我国南方为每年的10月中旬到翌年的4月,繁殖期内可产蛋30～50枚.
饲养管理:鸸鹋善奔跑,喜群居,饲养密度一般为每只15～20m2,繁殖群每只30m2左右.鸸鹋的跳跃力不强,可采用1.5m高的铁丝网或篱笆墙进行圈养,繁殖期可按公母比为1∶2～3进行单圈饲养.
