As one of the causes of the ethnic conflicts in former Yugoslavia in the 1990s, the major faults in ethnic issue occurred under the administration of the former Yugoslavia Communist League.
南共联盟执政期间在民族问题上的主要失误表现在 :一是民族分权自治的联邦制为民族主义活动提供了较为宽松的政治环境 ;二是以妥协让步为特征的民族政策的偏颇和疏漏 ,使民族主义不断获得新的活动空间 ;三是由党、军队和领袖三者所构成的联邦稳定机制自身因过度分权、党的联邦化等原因而动摇 ,难以有效抵御民族分离主义的冲击和维护联邦统一与稳定。
