在结晶凝固过程中没有石墨析出，断口呈银白色的铸铁。它含有较多的游离渗碳体，所以具有很高的硬度（一般在HB 500以上），但性脆。多用于抗磨损的零件，例如农具、磨球、磨煤机零件、抛丸叶片、泥浆泵零件、铸砂管以及冷硬轧辊的外表层等。以含碳量2.6～3.8％、含硅量0.6～0.9％、含锰量0.2～0.8％的铁水，加快铸件凝固过程，或加入强烈形成碳化物的金属元素的方法，可得白口铸铁件。中国早在春秋晚期已经使用白口铸铁（见冶金史）。
