A series of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-4-one derivatives with a planar push-pull structure were synthesized including 1-benzyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-4-one (BTHQ), 2-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-4-ylidene) malononitrile (THQM), 1,6-dioxojulolidine (DOJ) and 1,6-bis(dicyanomethylidene) julolidine (BDCJ).
