黄河象一条腾飞的巨龙，穿行在西北黄土高原的秦晋大峡谷中，当流经壶口时，宽约40 0米左右的河水突然收束一槽，形成特大马蹄状瀑布群。加之湖口地势险要，因而有“山飞海立”的壮观景象。
仰观飞瀑，其势如千山飞崩，四海倒倾，游人无不叹喟"壮哉"。
