断陷盆地

指断块构造中的沉降地块,又称地堑盆地。它的外形受断层线控制,多呈狭长条状。盆地的边缘由断层崖组成,坡度陡峻,边线一般为断层线。随着时间的推移,在断陷盆地中充填着从山地剥蚀下来的沉积物,其上或者积水形成湖泊(如贝加尔湖、滇池),或者因河流的堆积作用而被河流的冲积物所填充,形成被群山环绕的冲积、湖积、洪积平原。如太行山中的山间盆地和地堑谷中发育着的冲积洪积平原。低于海平面的断陷盆地被称为大陆洼地。
