任何一个社会的生产活动，基本上都追求以最少的投入获取最大的利润。其中一项最突出的指标就是资本有机构成，即由资本技术构成决定的而又反映技术构成变化的资本价值构成，其实质就是不变资本和可变资本之间的比例。根据社会再生产的实践，由于生产经营者不断采用新技术，资本的技术构成不断提高，与其相适应，资本有机构成也呈现出明显的提高趋向。在信息社会中，科学技术是第一生产力，以微电子技术为先导，电子计算机技术为核心的新技术革命浪潮给劳动资料、生产工具及社会分工都带来极大变化，劳动生产效率、社会经济效益由此得到提高，从而资本构成发生了极为明显的提高趋势，社会生产力对于信息技术的依赖性不仅越来越强，而且表现在对信息理论的需求、对管理信息化的要求也越来越高。正因为这样，在信息社会的资本有机构成中，不仅在总体上出现了不变资本呈上升趋势，而且出现了不变资本的结构性变化，信息技术设备投资显著增加，不变资本周转速度明显加快。为适应不变资本的这种变化，可变资本的增长主要体现在信息劳动者素质结构方面的变化。
