| 威尔斯(1866～1946) Wells，Herbert George 英国作家。1866年9月21日生于肯特郡的布朗利，1946年8月13日卒于伦敦。1890年获博士学位。曾在中学任教。威尔斯涉猎广泛，接受了空想社会主义思想，成为费边社社员和社会活动家、世界旅行家，到过社会主义的苏联，试图通过教育和科学技术改造社会。以科学幻想小说开始创作生涯。第一部作品是《时间机器》，后又陆续发表《莫洛博士岛》、《隐身人》、《星际战争》、《神的食物》等。这些小说具有讽刺性和预言性，也具有根据一定科学原理的丰富想象力，对当时及后世英国和世界科学幻想小说的发展有重要影响。20世纪以后，从幽默小说《爱情和鲁雅轩》开始，创作了一系列以《托诺-邦盖》为代表、反映英国中下层社会的写实小说。20年代以后，转向政论性小说创作，借科学幻想小说的形式，诠释宣传他的改革派理想，但缺乏艺术特色。著有《世界史纲》等历史著作及大量政论、随笔。 |
