Through Cai Yuanpei s innovation and through the new culture movement, Peking University soon took on a new look, which was evident mainly in the following: a university character which stresses science and democracy; a sound and striving personal character; an innovating and progree oriented academic character and an individually conscious collective character.
北大通过蔡元培的革新与新文化运动 ,迅速出现崭新的面貌 ,而其最主要的则是形成科学民主的校格、健全奋斗的人格、开新向上的学格与个性自觉的群格 ,从而使北大在教育上、思想文化上处于第一提琴手的位置 ,进而在具有划时代历史意义的五四运动中 ,水到渠成地成为中心与主导者。
