哈士奇最引人注目的地方大概就是那張有點像野狼，又像化過妝的臉；一般來說哈哈的眼睛上方都會有兩塊白毛區，臉的正中央也會有一道白色線，所以有人就說哈士奇的臉是三把火。哈士奇在大型犬中算是輕量級的體重，但在他膨鬆漂亮的體毛下，卻擁有強力的後肢肌肉與有力的背部，而且胸部發達，一看就像是運動健將。
對於生存在接近極地的人們來說，經常性的大風雪使得他們在交通上有很大的困難，因此發展出由體力優秀，且耐寒的狗狗來拉雪橇，就成了他們的主要交通工具，而這種體力好、跑的快、好訓練、且耐寒的狗狗就是「哈士奇」。
在毛色方面，哈士奇擁有多種色系，但基本上同的色系都會搭配上白色的體毛。其毛髮是屬於雙層結構，外面是一層膨膨的硬毛，也因此哈哈往往看起來會比實際來的大隻一些；內層則是柔軟而密的短毛，因此哈哈能耐的住極寒冷的天候，但相對熱對哈哈就有致命的殺傷力。
