    中国古代品评书法家及其作品的著作,为早期书论体裁之一。侧重阐发书法家之艺术特点、人品风貌。与书史偏重生平相异。盛于六朝、隋、唐,元、明渐少。南朝梁袁昂奉敕撰《古今书评》为书品之发端。庾肩吾《书品》,品评汉至齐梁能书者,体例严谨。唐李嗣真《书后品》条理井然,张怀瓘《书断》博论古今,为前人不及。另如北宋米芾《海岳名言》虽为论书语录,然颇具见地。随着书法理论的发展、充实,后世论书之作已不拘泥于品评体书论内容已日见广泛、深入。
