兰州是一个东西向延伸的狭长型谷地，夹于南北两山之间，黄河在市北的九州山脚下穿城而过。经过城建部门的规划建设，沿黄河南岸，已开通了一条东西数十公里的滨河路。因路面宽阔笔直，两旁花坛苗圃，星罗棋布，被誉为绿色长廊，现已成为全国最长的市内滨河马路。游客游览滨河路，可以欣赏黄河风情，参观沿途点缀的平沙落雁、搏浪、丝绸古道、黄河母亲、西游记等众多精美的雕塑；并参观中山铁桥、白塔山公园、水车园等景点。在旅游旺季，可看到古老的皮筏摆渡，体验“吹牛皮，渡黄河”的古韵；也可乘坐橡皮艇在黄河上漂流。滨河路被誉为兰州的“外滩”，已成为老年人晨练和年青人浪漫的场所。外地游客来兰州旅游，必先到滨河路，从东到西一游。
