戏曲剧种。由曲牌联套体结构的坐唱曲艺平弦发展而来，也叫西宁赋子。流传于青海省西宁及其东部农业区诸县。平弦曲艺由演唱者以瓷碟（艺人称"月儿"）击节，用三弦、反弦板胡、正弦板胡、琵琶、扬琴、月琴、笛子等乐器伴奏。演唱时，常由伴奏者伴唱或听众伴唱，艺人称为"拉梢子"。1954年青海省民族歌舞剧团曾将平弦搬上舞台，尝试演出了《秋江》、《英台抗婚》等剧。1958年底,西宁市戏剧学校增设了平弦班,同时湟中县秦剧团也演出了平弦戏《赵氏孤儿》，都为创立和发展平弦戏积累了经验。1961年在平弦班的基础上正式组成青海平弦实验剧团。平弦搬上舞台后，继承和发扬了平弦音乐温柔典雅的特点和独特的伴唱、伴奏形式,并借鉴秦腔等西北剧种的长处,将原来平弦的部分曲调,分为欢音 苦音两种唱法;同时,又从青海的"越弦"、"贤孝"等曲艺音乐和小调中吸收了部分曲调，丰富了平弦戏的音乐。增加了打击乐器。在音乐结构上既保持了曲牌联套体的特点,又吸收了板式变化体的长处,发展了慢板、快板、导板等板式。平弦戏搬上舞台后，演出了不少小型剧目，其中创作剧目有《马五哥与尕豆妹》、《血海怒涛》、《山村风雷》、《一百斤燕麦》等。
