On the Characteristics of Poetic Prose and Its Origins;

In the late Qing Dynasty, Liu Xizai, a great scholar, indicated definitely in his writing that “Poems are the core of rhymed proses and rhymed proses are poems”.

In particular,his Xiao Fu is purely a four-sentence poetic literary creation in the early period of West Han Dynasty,but four-sentence literary works begin not from Yang Xiong,but from an even earlier time.

In the period of the Southern Song Dynasty,motivated by political needs and prompted by the scarcity of talents in poetry and the prevailing atmosphere of advocating government by civilians,the government decided to restore the system of selecting scholars by testing them on poetry,which had been abolished in the Northern Song Dynasty.
