台湾高股息指数则是选取未来一年预测现金股利殖利率较高的股票作为成分股，着重稳定配息的长期报酬。台湾高股息指数和台湾发达指数这两个指数，是继台湾50指数、台湾中型100指数和台湾信息科技指数三支指数之后，证交所和富时指数联手编制的新指数，从现有台湾50指数的50支成分股，以及台湾中型100指数的100支成分股中，筛选出符合成分股资格标准的股票来编制。交易所指出，台湾高股息指数是考量目前高股息投资已经成为市场趋势，投资人从以往赚取股价上涨的资本利得，逐渐改变为由稳定的配息来获得报酬，编制完成以后，可以作为追求长期稳定报酬的投资工具。
