彬县大佛寺位于彬县城西十公里西兰公路旁的清凉山脚下。为唐贞观二年（公元628年所建， 原名庆寿寺，寺前有明镜台，台上建有三层砖木结构的楼阁，高五十余米，站在楼阁上可俯瞰寺前全景。全寺共有一百零七个大小石窟，二百五十七个佛龛，大小造像一千四百九十八尊。
主窟大佛依岩跌坐，身高二十四米，造形雄伟、雕饰富丽，发式作螺髻形，雍容端庆，耳垂披衣、袒胸、盘膝端坐在莲座上，体态自然丰满，颇显唐代风格。被誉为陕西和丝绸之路第一大佛。主窟两则有千佛洞、罗汉洞等。
大佛寺是全国重点文物保护单位，解放后政府多次拨款维修，现已建立文管所，设专人保护并对游人开放。
