The author mainly discusses high rising tone change and the related issues of the Susong dialect in Anhui province, and argues that the morphemic functions of high rising tone change are to mark diminutive, onomatopoeia, emphasis, or omission of the word The question intonation with the same tone pattern as the high rising tone change is also discussed.

Dyer Ball (1847 -1919),this thesis attempts to make a primary discussion of the high-level and high-rising tone sandhi of the Yue dialect one century ago,and analyzes the lexical change and spreading brought about by tone sandhi,which is of great significance to the study of the Yue dialect today.
