 (术语)梵语曰哩始,R!s!i称外道之高德者为仙人。以其多入山行道故也。仙果已极,得五种通力。故谓为五通仙。又称佛亦曰大仙。大日经疏六曰:“持明仙者,是余药力等所成。悉地持明仙者,皆是专依咒术得悉地人。直云诸仙者,皆是围陀事火之类,劝修苦行成五通神仙。”楞伽经四曰:“大慧!我于此娑呵世界有三阿僧祇百千名号。(中略)或有众生知我如来者。(中略)有知仙人者。”楞严经八曰:“阿难,复有从人不依正觉修三摩地,别修妄念,存想固形。游山林人不及处,有十种仙。(中略)此等皆于人中练心,不修正觉。别得生理,寿千万岁,休止深山或大海岛,绝于人境。斯亦轮回妄想流转。不修三昧,报尽还来,散入诸趣。”(参见:仙)
